Tomahawk Angel Creator Honored as Best International Webcomic Creator
Tapas Entertainment is thrilled to announce that Mangaka Ody has been awarded the Best International Webcomic Creator at the prestigious 2024 World Webtoon Awards for his groundbreaking work, Tomahawk Angel.
Overseen by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), the World Webtoon Awards honor exceptional talent and creativity in the global webcomic industry. Mangaka Ody's accolade not only highlights his remarkable contribution to the medium but also underscores the universal appeal of his storytelling.
A Dystopian Epic: The World of Tomahawk Angel
Set in a dystopian future in the year 2050, Tomahawk Angel follows the journey of an 18-year-old amnesiac woman who awakens to a world devastated by monsters and on the verge of extinction. Guided by an artificial superintelligence, a ruthless scientist unleashes chaos to preserve only a fraction of humankind.
As she navigates this perilous landscape, the protagonist grapples with themes of love, war, and identity. She uncovers the dark history of this corrupt new world and confronts her mysterious role within it. The central question looms: Is she humanity's savior, or does she share a deeper connection with the very monsters she battles?
Originally a digital sensation on Tapas, Tomahawk Angel is also available in print for the first time through a collaboration between Tapas Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics. This partnership marks a significant milestone in bridging digital storytelling with traditional publishing, expanding the reach of webcomics to new audiences.
Words from Mangaka Ody
"I want to thank the South Korean government, Kakao Entertainment, and the judges for making the World Webtoon Awards possible," said Mangaka Ody. "I also want to express my gratitude to the Greek Embassy. Major thanks to Dark Horse Comics for publishing a beautiful physical edition of my work. My editor, John Latham, has been an amazing collaborator, and I couldn't have done this without his guidance. Most importantly, I want to thank my publisher, Tapas Entertainment, for supporting me and believing in my vision. Publishing Tomahawk Angel on Tapas was the single best decision of my life."
Praise from the Editor
John Latham, Editor of Tomahawk Angel, shared his thoughts on the achievement:
“I was beyond humbled to learn that Ody mentioned me in his acceptance speech. But the truth, as I’ve told him time and again, is my contributions wouldn’t mean anything without the force of his vision and dedication. Tomahawk Angel is a true labor of love, and this award is just the first culmination of Ody’s years of tireless, largely self-taught effort to create the next manga phenomenon. It is our privilege to share this webcomic with an audience that can only grow from here, as readers the world over go on this journey with him.”
Tapas Entertainment Celebrates the Win
Stephanie Cheng, Senior Content Acquisitions Manager at Tapas Entertainment, expressed the company's excitement over the win:
“We are absolutely thrilled for Ody to be recognized and celebrated at the World Webtoon Awards,” Cheng explains. “Ody is an amazing creator and all around person and this award is incredibly well deserved. Tomahawk Angel is a testament to his extraordinary talent, professionalism, and the power of webcomics to captivate a global audience.
